Minibus Towing Training

WHAT CAN I TOW?

All drivers who passed a car test before 1 January 1997 will probably be entitled to tow trailers as long as the overall weight of the minibus and trailer does not exceed 8.5 tonnes. Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 can now drive a vehicle and trailer combination although some training is still suggested. However you do need to pass a D1+E for minibus towing.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

We will not only ensure your general driving is up to test standard, but will make sure you know how to perform the additional requirements of towing a trailer. These are now completed as a seperate test and must be passed before taking the practical driving test.

  • Coupling and uncoupling the trailer
  • Reverse parking around cones (off road)

At the beginning of the test you will be asked 5 “Show me Tell me” questions. Each wrong answer will be marked as a minor driving fault, unless all 5 are wrong and then a serious driver fault is given. The test will last for approximately 1 hour during which all your general driving will be assessed.

All courses are designed to not only teach you how to tow a trailer but to bring your driving skills to the required DVSA standard to pass a test.  Our instructors are all government registered DVSA driving instructors and maintain the very highest of standards.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

D1+E Licence Course

This course is designed for someone who is new to using a trailer and wants to pass the D1+E test. The D1 category is a minibus and the “+E” part is for a trailer. This training can start with a 4 hour introductory lesson which covers,

  • Vehicle familiarisation & reversing
  • Using mirrors & equipment
  • Vehicle checks
  • Coupling/Uncoupling
  • Basic manoeuvres

At the end of this session we will also give you a full explanation of what training you require, to pass the DVSA D1+E test.

The cost of this is £195.00.

Following initial training and assessment a recommendation will be made for one of the following. Due to the tests having to be taken on seperate days it is likely that a 4 day course is required.

16hrs  Some experience but not taken a test for some time £1035.00

20hrs New to towing and some elements of driving need attention £1255.00

Please Note: If you want to take the minibus and trailer test, you can now do this without having to take a D1 test first.
